1-4:30 pm: Bus Trip: Thoreau, Botany and the Walden Woods

Visit Thoreau Institute at Walden Woods in Concord for an in-depth look at Henry David Thoreau's explorations into the botanical world. Hear the Curator of Collections speak about Thoreau the naturalist, and view his herbarium specimens. Walden Woods Conservation Director will then lead a walking tour to Thoreau's cabin on Walden Pond. Limit 20. Fee: $50

 

1:15 - 2:15 pm: Giclée Fine Art Printing - Bill Wenzel

The only thing harder than pronouncing Gicleé is understanding the process. Learn what can and cannot be accomplished working with fine art reproduction firms. Bill Wenzel, a partner at Image Resolutions in Norwell, MA, walks through the steps from image capture to final prints. See samples including some originals for comparison and examination. Limit 100.

 

1:15 - 4:15 pm: The Art of Fixing Mistakes - Catherine Watters

We all make mistakes….and they can be fixed! Learn to use a variety of lifting brushes, sandpaper, melamine sponge and dental tweezers to make those mistakes disappear. Useful tips for lifting highlights and veins will also be given. Please bring a painting with mistakes that you wish to fix. Limit 15. Fee: $50

 

Scott Rawlins, Geastrum on Coquille Board1:15 - 4:15pm: Classic Coquille Board - Scott Rawlins

Coquille board is a textured ground that produces a regular, pebbled pattern when a pencil is rubbed across it. Most drawings on coquille board are executed as tonal renderings, but can be reproduced as line, thus saving both time and money. Participants in this workshop will experiment with black and white on coquille board, using both a waxy pencil and ink, and learn to appreciate the versatility of a surface noted for its unique texture. Limit 12. Fee: $50

 

Robin Jess, Magnolia2:30 - 4 pm: Investigating Leaves: Shapes and Terms - Robin Jess

Have fun demystifying basic leaf terminology – really! With pressed examples, explore the characteristics of various common tree leaves. While drawing in graphite, you will learn basic terms, structures and functions that will aid your understanding and inform your artwork. Limit 75.

5 - 7:30 pm: Silent Auction, ASBA’s Exciting Annual Fundraiser

Have fun bidding on great items like original artwork, brushes, notecards and more while helping to support ASBA.

 

7:30 - 10 pm: ASBA’s Annual Awards Banquet

Enjoy a relaxing dinner with friends new and old as we honor members’ achievements at the “Grand Finale” of ASBA’s conference activities.
